OFFERS THE BEST!
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 08, 2018

The gifts of a man open the path that leads to the presence of the great. Prov. 18:16.

Offering a present to an authority or receiving a present, if you are in a position of influence, can be frowned upon. Bribery is an immoral mechanism that is used to get a favor and even to buy conscience. Evidently, the biblical text is not referring to this type of present.
In the biblical lands one never spoke with a real authority without taking a gift to him. It was the symbol of respect. To approach a person with the investiture of a king, without carrying anything, empty-handed, would be reckless.

Let's now make a transfer of all this to God. Each time we approach him, we must do so with an attitude of respect and submission. Of course, the greatest present that he expects from his creatures is a heart willing to adore him. Anything else that you offer, is just an expression of what the heart is feeling.

There are two dangerous extremes. On the one hand, believe that it is possible to buy divine favors with gold or silver. On the other, think that God does not care about the attitude with which you approach him.

In Malachi's time, people thought that way. Therefore, God told them: "The son honors the father, and the servant his lord, if, then, I am a father, where is my honor? and if I am a lord, where is my fear? [...] And when you offer the blind animal for sacrifice, is not it bad? Likewise when you offer the lame or the sick, is not it bad? Present it, then, to your prince; Will he be pleased with you, or will you be accepted? says the LORD of hosts. "*

What kind of present are you offering to God? What kind of attitude do you seek? A humble heart and willing to obey his advice will never be disappointed. Jesus is always willing to listen to the sincere prayer of his children.

Did you already think that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? And if it is with your body that you serve the Lord, would not it be time to review the way you care for your body? Do that today, because "the gift of man widens his path and leads him before the great."
